Renewable energy and sustainable low–impact living and building construction has markedly increased in recent years. The overall business potential for renewable energy production has increased dramatically over the last 5 years due in part to increased energy demands and mandated environmental impact controls.

Several areas of renewable energy are being explored but the leaders in the market are solar photovoltaic and wind and water–current turbines. Wind Turbine installations reached an all time high in 2008 with the addition of 10,000 Megawatts of power to the Utility grid between 2006 and 2008. This was nearly double the amount of systems installed and operating prior to 2006. Thousands more of these systems will continue to be installed.
